High school basketball stars from across Ontario, gathered Monday at Ryerson’s Mattamy Athletic Centre to showcase their skills at the fourth annual Battle of the Boards.
For seven hours the teens from eight different regions competed in games and skills competitions, including a dunk contest and a three-point challenge.
Three of the four games were nail-biters. In the first game Ottawa beat Peel region 70 -69. The second game saw Halton taking Toronto Catholic 70 - 66.
The third game was won with a buzzer-beating shot by Malcolm Duvivier, putting Independent South over Toronto Public 76-75.
The fourth game was the only blowout of the night with Independent North downing Hamilton 104-66.
The three-point challenge saw a group of guys face off from beyond the arc. Jordan Scott of Notre Dame, representing Halton region, was the best from downtown, outshooting his fellow opponents to capture the title.
“It's an awesome experience. It's an awesome facility and all the best athletes are here,” said Scott.
The dunk contest saw soaring, slamming, sometimes missing men flying to nail an impressive dunk. Raheem Williams took the title with a jam; he said he and his coaches worked on it for a whole day. Williams represents the region of Independent North 2.
This competition is an annual one, which once showcased the skills of current Ryerson Rams all-stars Aaron Best and Jahmal Jones.
