Dozens of engineering students gathered around Lake Devo to take part in Frosh Week Leader Initiation

Frosh leaders from the rambunctious engineering program were put through their final round of training on Thursday afternoon. Students stripped down to their skivvies in sub-zero temperatures and leapfrogged from Kerr Hall East to Lake Devo.
From there, they were given “Spirit Demonstration 2013” petitions, and collected 20 signatures that would allow them to earn their "covies", better known as coveralls – a blue, one-piece outfit. After submitting their papers to the leaders, the frozen bunch formed a conga line and shimmied from Lake Devo to Yonge and Dundas Square.
Part of their initiation included “swimming” across the small, slushy lake once they returned to campus.
Last year around this time, temperatures were higher than normal so this year’s participants were in for a chilling experience.
