Ryerson's mascot, Eggy — inspired by Egerton Ryerson's zodiac sign Aries, which is another word for ram — makes his debut at a hockey game with University of Waterloo in 1961.

Named after education advocate Egerton Ryerson, Eggy has been an icon of the university for more than fifty years. Students of this era know him as a cuddly mascot of few words, but Eggy was first introduced to the community as a real ram. According to his online bio, our current Eggy is celebrating his birthday today (unrelated to the late Mr. Ryerson's date of birth). If you see him out and about, be sure to send birthday wishes his way. You can also find him on
Facebook and follow him on Twitter.
